This unique stretch of "red coastline" is not colored by seawater, but is a magnificent natural wonder created by the salt- and alkali-tolerant seepweed (Suaeda salsa) growing wild on the distinctive tidal flats at the mouth of the Liaohe River. As autumn arrives, betacyanin levels in the plants rise steadily, turning the vast tidal flats into an endless expanse of red. Set against lush green reed beds, golden rice fields, and winding waterways, the scene unfolds like a breathtaking painting.
The Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio and Television of Panjin added that following years of systematic ecological restoration, the wetland's ecosystem has seen sustained improvement, and the area has become a vital stopover along global migratory bird routes. Every year, hundreds of thousands of migratory birds pass through the wetland, and rare waterbirds such as red-crowned cranes and Saunders's gulls rest and forage here. Scenes of harmony between humanity and nature can be seen everywhere.
These days, the area offers a diverse range of supporting programs, including wetland tours, birdwatching, culinary offerings, and cultural experiences. Fueled by a vibrant cultural tourism sector, this ecological landmark is increasingly stepping into the international spotlight and extending a warm invitation to visitors from around the world to experience the romance and abundant vitality of this wetland in northern China.
