Climate Week NYC - Clean Energy Transition or Con-Job - Friends of Science Society has Questions

CALGARY, Alberta, Sept. 24, 2025
CALGARY, Alberta, Sept. 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Friends of Science Society is challenging Premier David Eby's claims of a clean energy economy, as he presented his case at Climate Week NYC. In a short video explainer titled, "Clean BC Runs on Oil."
Friends of Science Society points out that British Columbia (BC) runs on oil, natural gas, hydro and some bio-mass; electricity, generated some ~90% by hydro in BC, makes up only 18% of the total energy mix in the province. Premier Eby said BC has lots of clean hydro power, forgetting to mention that, as reported by the US EIA, the United States has been providing additional power to BC as drought has affected their own power generation.
Meanwhile, in a speech at the UN General Assembly, President Trump called climate change 'the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world'. Trump offered mocking congratulations to the EU for reducing their carbon footprint 37%, pointing out that their economy is being decimated and world emissions have gone up 54%, making the EU sacrifice meaningless.
Friends of Science Society issued a report in October 2024, titled, "Europe on the Brink: The Debate about Europe's Energy Future – Lessons for Canada." Robert Lyman summarized key points from Prof. Samuel Furfari's critique of the Draghi report on EU Competitiveness published by CLINTEL. Their report and this short video shows that Canada is facing similar decline to that of the EU. Lyman offers suggestions to turn it around and #JumpStartCanada.
The Epoch Times France on Sept. 23, 2025, carried an op-ed by Furfari with the translated title of "The European chemical industry, a thermometer of EU disease," wherein Furfari discusses the domino effect of major petro-chemical industries leaving the EU due to power and energy prices that are three and four times that of the US. A multitude of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) depend on these large companies; SME's cannot simply relocate. Furfari predicts this will lead to a social catastrophe. He writes: "'zero carbon' risks turning into "zero industry" and therefore zero economy."
Undeterred by this evidence of the negative impacts of Net Zero ideology on the economy, Prime Minister Mark Carney is also in New York at the UN General Assembly and making the media interview circuit, still claiming that Canada's strategy is to be "climate competitive." However, the National Observer reported on Sept. 23, 2025, that climate groups feel cut out of climate policy planning by Carney.
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) issued a climate and health report. As reported in Politico on Sept. 17, 2025, the NASEM report rejected the earlier US DOE report on climate science. The NASEM report concurred with the EPA 'endangerment finding' of 2009 which "formally declared greenhouse gases a threat to human health and welfare."
Friends of Science Society points out that the claim of increased marine heat waves in the NASEM report (Figure 3.4 Change in Cumulative Intensity of Marine Heat Waves in the United States 1982-1983) due to greenhouse gas emissions does not make sense. A new post on Friends of Science Society's blog by Arthur Viterito demonstrates that the Kamchatka Peninsula's marine heat waves are directly affected by geothermal hotspots in the area; this evidence is ignored by climate alarmists. An earlier 2023 post explains more about subsea geothermal evidence affecting global warming/climate change, titled "The Geothermal Paradox: How the Earth's Second Largest Heat Source May Be Driving the Most Recent Warming."
As Friends of Science Society pointed out in their recent Open Letter to the Office of the Supervisor for Financial Systems in Canada, the Network for Greening the Financial System has been using a flawed and conflicted model for their climate risk damage function. Climate change is a function of Mother Nature, not human industrial activity, as outlined in CLINTEL's World Climate Declaration, which states there is no climate emergency. Thus, no price on carbon nor a carbon tax is required.
Join Friends of Science Society in-person in Calgary or via live stream for "Food Prices, Farming and Net Zero Ideology" on Thurs. Sept. 25, 2025 at 7 P.M. MT. Hear what scientist and rancher, Dr. Joseph Fournier, has to say about Net Zero ideology on farming
About
Friends of Science Society is an independent group of earth, atmospheric and solar scientists, engineers, and citizens that is celebrating its 23rd year of offering climate science insights. After a thorough review of a broad spectrum of literature on climate change, Friends of Science Society has concluded that the sun is the main driver of climate change, not carbon dioxide (CO2).
